For me, it is about history, cultural enrichment and FOOD! Yes I love to eat and that is a big part of my travel experience no matter where that may be.
History, it is more than just walking around the ruins of a castle or in the Colosseum in Rome. Yes it is nice to stand there and look in wonderment, but it is about thinking about the past and how small we are in the grand scheme of things. A few years back we were traveling in the UK and we were touring a castle in North Wales. The castle was built in the 11th century and it still stands today. The United States hadn’t even been discovered yet. When walking the streets in France, Italy or Germany, I think to myself how these buildings are hundreds of years old. It really is awe inspiring to me.
Cultural enrichment in every turn. As you walk around in another country, you cannot help but see that things are different. The way people live their lives, the way they do things, the way they shop and cook. Granted, the world is starting to catch up with technology, but things are still done the old way. Many a culture moves at a lot slower pace than we are used to living our lives today.
Last, but by no means the least, especially to me, is food. One of my biggest joys while traveling is diving head first into local cuisine. Yes we can get ethnic dishes at home, but I would venture to say that 99 times out of 100, it is not the same as when you are in the country that it originated in.
